ZACH's LAW / GOAL SAFETY

In 2011, an Illinois bill was signed into law outlining the measures necessary to protect children from soccer goals that can tip over. House Bill 1130 (or the Moveable Soccer Goal Act) is commonly called Zach's Law in reference to a child whose life was taken by such an incident in 2003 when a 184-pound metal soccer goal fell and struck his head during a practice.

Improperly secured soccer goals present a serious threat to our athletes, especially children, and Illinois led the nation in recognizing and preventing these types of safety concerns when the bill was put into law. Under the law, soccer goals measuring between 6.5 to 8 feet high and 18 to 24 feet wide must conform to tip-resistant standards set by the American Society for Testing and Materials.

TCSA takes this matter very seriously and routinely checks that all our goals are properly secured. Anyone who encounters a goal that is not staked into the ground should contact TCSA immediately and not play on the field with the improperly secured goal until the situation is rectified.
