Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities will be available at the 2016 TCSA Classic Cup.  See position descriptions below for a detailed explanation of each role.  WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!  Sign up today to help ...

NOTE:  Minimum age for volunteers is 16 unless otherwise noted.

Pre-Registration Packet Check

Registrars are needed the evening to meet at the TCSA Indoor Facility to review all of the submitted team registration packets for missing information.

This is a good volunteer position for families with multiple children playing in the tournament as all of the hours are before the tournament starts which leaves you free to watch lots of games on Saturday and Sunday!

Pre-Tournament Set-up

The day before the tournament, hours are spent laying out the fields, marking lines, setting goals and hanging nets and getting ready for the weekend.  It requires walking and physical activity.  Familiarity with field dimensions and layout are helpful but not required.  Sunscreen and a shade hat are recommended, as is plenty of water.

This is a good volunteer position for families with multiple children playing in the tournament as all of the hours are before the tournament starts which leaves you free to watch lots of games on Saturday and Sunday!

Registration @ Breen Park

Registrars are needed on Friday afternoon/evening of the tournament weekend.  A few volunteers will also be needed on Saturday.  These volunteers greet coaches and team managers at the main tent as they arrive to register their teams.  They will check player passes, rosters and medical release forms.  Registrars represent TCSA with a friendly and helpful attitude and should be able to answer questions about field layout, tournament rules and the general area.

This is a good job for people who multi-task well and have a good sense of organization.  It is also good for people who require a sedentary job.  You will not be permitted to bring your children into the registration tent as there will not be time for adequate supervision.

Concessions

Concession volunteers are stationed at the main concession stand at Breen Park.  These volunteers will be responsible for concession sales during their assigned shift.

This is a good volunteer position for families with multiple children playing in the tournament because volunteer hours are available at all hours of the day.  This is not a good job for people who cannot stand for extended periods of time.  This is a fast paced job and you will not be permitted to bring your children into the concessions area as there will not be time for adequate supervision.

Field Maintenance / Sanitation

Not the most glorious job, but a necessary one!  These people will make continuous rounds emptying garbage cans and keeping the grounds clean and hazard free.  SOME volunteers, but not all, will drive utility vehicles to haul trash to the dumpsters.  You may also be asked to check toilet paper stock and paper towel supplies in the portable restrooms.  No maintenance or cleaning of the portable restrooms is required.

This is a great job for people with several children playing in the tournament as the hours are available all day, cover the entire tournament grounds and young children CAN accompany you on this job.  Minimum age to drive a utility vehicle is 18.

Field Marshal

Field Marshals are an important part of the running of the tournament.  Field Marshals are stationed at the fields before and during play and help keep all games running smoothly and on time.  Two-way radios are provided for use by Field Marshals to contact tournament officials, communicate game results to the tournament scorekeeper or to call medical personnel if any injuries occur.  Field Marshals represent TCSA with a neutral, friendly and helpful demeanor towards our guests and should be able to answer general questions about field layout.

A Field Marshal's primary responsibility is checking in teams so games may start on time.  This includes verifying player passes match the players checking in, making sure that players are wearing shin guards and that cleats do not have metal spikes or toe cleats.  Player passes are held by the Field Marshal during play and returned to coaches/team managers at the end of the game.  The Referee Assignor relies on the Field Marshals to notify him by radio if there is not a referee on the field.

This is a good job for people with one child playing in the tournament because you can Field Marshal at a tent near where your child is playing.  It is also a good job for people that have limited mobility since activities are usually confined to the Field Marshal tent at the fields.

There will be a meeting for Field Marshals at the TCSA Indoor Facility several days before the tournament to review the rules and procedures.

General Volunteer (Float)

General Volunteers are needed to assist the Tournament Director, Assistant Tournament Director, Volunteer Coordinator and/or Tournament Committee as needed.  If a volunteer in a specific area fails to show, the General Volunteer will be asked to fill-in for that shift.  Other tasks could include bringing water to volunteers, assisting with data entry of scores, walking the tournament grounds, etc.

General Volunteers represent TCSA with a friendly and helpful attitude and should be able to answer questions about field layout, tournament rules and the general area.  It may require walking.

Traffic Management (Parking)

Parking volunteers are stationed at various locations along entrances. They direct traffic, help control access to handicapped parking spaces and maximize parking lot usage. Parking volunteers help make sure the flow of traffic is safe and orderly. Parking volunteers also monitor emergency vehicle entrances to ensure access is clear at all times.  They may also assist transporting people via golf carts who require assistance across the fields.

NEW for 2013: Shifts have been reduced to 2-hours and include early morning opportunities

This is a good volunteer position for families with multiple children playing in the tournament because volunteer hours are available at all hours of the day and can be accomplished early in the morning before game play starts. This is not a good job for people who cannot stand for extended periods of time. Sunscreen and a shade hat are recommended. Minimum age is 16.

Awards

Volunteers are needed on Sunday of the tournament weekend.  These volunteers will be responsible for assisting with trophy and medal distribution.

This is a good job for people who multi-task well and have a good sense of organization.  This is a fast paced job and you will not be permitted to bring your children into the awards tent as there will not be time for adequate supervision.

Post-Tournament Breakdown/Cleanup

After the final whistle blows we have work to do to get all of the fields back to their original condition.  Volunteers will walk the fields for garbage, take down tents and load everything into trucks.  Time commitment is Sunday late afternoon until finished.

This job requires lots of physical activity and walking of the grounds.  It is good for people with lots of kids playing in the tournament because all volunteer hours are outside of the game play times.

Traffic Management - Breakdown

Volunteers are needed to get all of the parking lots "back to normal". It requires walking and physical activity.
NEW for 2013:  will not require a tear-down of the staking in grass parking lot as in prior years, simply the collection of barriers and cones, possible minor pickup within lots.
This is a good volunteer position for families with multiple children playing in the tournament as all of the hours are later on Sunday and after all but a few championship games are being played which leaves you free to watch lots of games on Saturday and Sunday!
